On April 9, 2023, the first event of the Yangzhou City Games Social Sports Department, the “Sikaiguanyuan Cup” competitive card gaming competition, concluded successfully. This competition followed the latest “Competitive Guandan Competition Rules” released by the General Administration of Sport of China’s Card Sports Management Center, with all equipment meeting competitive sports standards.

The event was hosted by the People’s Government of Yangzhou City, co-organized by the Sports Bureau of Yangzhou City and the People’s Government of Hanjiang District, Yangzhou City, and executed by the Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Bureau of Hanjiang District, Yangzhou City. The competition attracted over 200 athletes. It was divided into two age groups: 20 to 45 years old and 46 to 65 years old, with three categories in each group: Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The competition used the Howell double event format, with 16 rounds per match, each consisting of 3 sets of cards. The final ranking was determined by the score rate.

Participant Ma Yuxia mentioned that the rules of competitive Guandan are fair and reasonable, unlike traditional games that rely on luck, this sport truly showcases one’s technical skills. An official from the Yangzhou Sports Bureau stated that Guandan is an intellectual sport loved by the people of Yangzhou, with a broad audience base. Including competitive Guandan in the events of this year’s City Games Social Sports Department, and making it the first event, aims to attract more citizens to participate and pay attention to the activities of the City Games Social Sports Department.
