On May 8, 2023, in a bid to further promote and popularize Guandan, bolster the training of referees nationwide, and provide an opportunity for the organizational development of teams for the National Mind Sports Games’ Guandan competition, the Card Sports Management Center announced the upcoming National Guandan Championship.
The Card Sports Management Center views Guandan as having the potential to become a formal sporting event and aims to pilot initiatives focused on standardizing and guiding Guandan, with the ultimate goal of making it a recognized sport. Their efforts begin with the development of the “Competitive Guandan Competition Rules” (Trial) as the cornerstone of the project. Additionally, they will organize national referee training courses, launch mobilization campaigns, and work on team development. The center will also draft relevant regulations and measures to provide essential support for the healthy and smooth promotion of Guandan.
After a period of solid progress and witnessing favorable developments in Guandan across the nation, and with the approval of the General Administration of Sport of China, Guandan has been included as an exhibition event in the Fifth National Mind Sports Games. Hence, the decision to host the National Guandan Championship was made to further stimulate the growth of Guandan in China.
