Gin Rummy Rules
Ⅰ.Introduction
At the beginning of the game, the staff will put pre-distributed cards into the box, and place it on the table.
The dealer gets 11 cards, and the other player gets 10 cards. The dealer should directly discard a card. Dealer position of each hand has been clearly marked on the box.
Then, 2 players take turns to draw a card, and then discard a card. Both can either directly draw a card from the pile or take the last card which is discarded by their opponent. The cards discarded by the two players are stacked. Except the one on the top (the one which was the last to be discarded), the cards are not visible.
The goal is to make the cards to connect with each other, namely, meld (more than three cards with the same number, or more than three cards of flush). Thus, to make the sum points of the rest card without melded smaller.
The card points are as followings: A = 1 point, J, Q, K = 10 points, the other cards calculated by the numbers on the card.numbers on the card.
Ⅱ.Basic Rules
1.Meld is composed of three or four cards of same number, or three or more cards flush. A is used as 1, which serves as merely A23 flush, A234 flush, and so on, instead of QKA flush, JQKA flush, etc.
2.When a player draws a card and then discards a card, making the remaining 10 cards in his hand serve as a condition of winning (see below). The player may discard the card with its face down, and declare winning. Player should directly declare Big Gin without discard a card.
3.Winning Condition
Gin. As for Gin, the cards are all integrated into melds, and no remaining card. The opponent is not allowed to lay off his cards (the details of lay off the card, see”lay off” below). The player, who discard a card and wins with no card remaining, is entitled for Gin. The player, who doesn’t discard a card but wins with 11 cards in hand melded, is entitled for Big Gin.
4.Lay off.
Based on the knocking, the opponent can lay off his cards. The opponent put his own card on the winner’s melds, thus forming a meld with more cards. Then, the card may not be counted as deadwood. As for lay off, the player can only put card on the winner’s meld, but can not put card on the winner’s deadwood card. For example, when 8910 is the winner’s Meld, and the other player has 7 and J, the lay off is allowed. when the winner has two deadwood point, the deadwood card is 2, and the other player has 2 and 2, the lay off is not allowed.
5.After the knocking, if the opponent has deadwood point less than or equal to the declarer, or by means of lay off, the opponent has deadwood point less than or equal to the declarer, then the declarer is undercut. The opponent is the winner.
6.When player declares knocking with deadwood points greater than 10, the player will be penalized false knocking. The game will go on and the player made false knocking can’t declare winning again. If the opponent declared winning after, the deadwood point of the false knocking
7. After a player draw the last card of his own pile and discard a card, no player declare winning, this hand will be a draw, and the last card discarded can’t be declared winning.player will be the points when he declares false knocking.
8. Score.
(1) Winner of knocking: 15+d (the difference in deadwood) points. Winner of Gin: 25+d points. Winner of undercut: 25+d points. Winner of Big Gin: 35+d points. The loser gets the point of the opposite number of the winner.
(2) Score for each round: At the end of each round of the competition, the total points of two players from each team in all hands of the round will be added up to determine the outcome of the match. The winning team will be scored 3 points, while the losing one will get 1 point. If both teams have the same total points, they will each have two points in the round.
9.The ranking is based on the cumulative number of points each team scored in each round. If each team has the same cumulative score for each round, then the ranking will be determined based on the smallest point in the cumulative score.
Ⅲ.Process
1. At the start of a hand, the two players are seated and agree to start. Then the staff will place the box with the pre-distributed cards on the table. The two players take out their hand from the box and the dealer starts playing.
2. After a hand is over, the staff records the final score and after asking players to approve. Then players will receive a new card box to start a new hand.
3. The total score of this round will be calculated by staff. The players should confirm and make signature before leaving, waiting for the next round of competition.
4. During the game the players shall not leave without any reason.
Ⅳ. Description for Duplicate System
1. 2 players of each team will compete with 2 players of another team at the same time, with the seats staggered. That is, if A and B are teammates, in the same round and the same match, A is the dealer, then opponent of player B in another table will be dealer.
2. In the same round and the same hand, the hand is distributed in advance to ensure that the dealer and the other player’s hand are the same, that is, the two teams in the same match have the same hand in the same position.
3. In the same match, the hand of one player is the same to the opponent’s hand of the other table, thereby eliminating the influence of the hand on the result. Investigating the different approach of different players on the same hand will embody the diversification of the game and the technical differences of the players.
Ⅴ. Penalty Explanation
1. During the competition, all players shall strictly observe the relevant rules and obey referees’judgments. In the event of serious violations, the chief referee has the right to disqualify the player(s) involved.
2. Players shall arrive at the designated venue on time to take the seats to attend the competition, and shall not be late or absent without any reason. If a player is late for no reason more than 15 minutes, then his team will be regarded as being defaulted in the competition. If a team defaults in group stage, all match results relating to the defaulted team will be cleared (including any other team played with the defaulted team). If a team defaults in knockout stage, semifinals or final, then such team will be judged lost.
